New Faculty Program
The New Faculty Program (NFP) offers multiple opportunities for tenure-track faculty, term faculty, and postdocs systemwide to jump start their careers at the University. The program helps faculty build their capacities in research, teaching, community engagement, career advancement, and leadership.
How to Participate
- View the semester’s NFP Schedule and complete opportunities that fit your needs. New schedules are released in early September for the Fall Semester, and early January for the Spring Semester.
- Each event/program is assigned a value (NFP unit) that can be used toward the eight (8) NFP units required to receive a letter of recognition from the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs. If you would like to receive a letter of recognition, please track your progress using this NFP Record of Involvement and email it to [email protected] once you have completed eight NFP units. Tenured. Now what?
The job security that comes with tenure creates unprecedented opportunities while also introducing complex challenges and new uncertainties. Tenure provides faculty with greater power and autonomy to lead, to effect institutional and disciplinary change, and to chart their own professional course. However, the ‘old ways’ of doing things that promoted success on the tenure track do not guarantee continued success for mid-career faculty. Successfully navigating the transition to tenured faculty demands new skills, new mentoring relationships, and a reimagining of one's institutional influence.
Tenured. Now What? is a series of eight weekly workshops facilitated by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost that aims to support mid-career faculty transitioning from pre-tenure to tenured status. The program, offered each fall and spring semester, seeks to empower associate professors who earned tenure within the past two years to envision and pursue post-tenure pathways that are strategic and personalized. Using a "flipped classroom" approach, participants will complete short readings and reflective writing assignments in advance of 75-minute, in-person workshops. During each workshop, facilitated conversations will explore actionable strategies to help recently-tenured faculty clarify their mid-career goals, create targeted action plans, and build supportive mentoring networks to promote their long-term success.
Applications for the Spring 2026 Tenured. Now What? series are now being accepted.
